Cervicogenic headache: the importance of sticking to the criteria.

چکیده
Cervicogenic headache (CEH) is a headache, but its origin is in the neck. Recently, two cases of intracranial tumour, which unfortunately were originally diagnosed as CEH, were published. The authors felt that this sequence of events demonstrates the insufficiency of the current CEH criteria. We--on the other hand--feel strongly that, on the contrary, this small challenge may have demonstrated the robustness of the CEH criteria. The criteria of CEH were actually not fulfilled at any time. We marshal our arguments in support of this view and concentrate on one of their cases (no. 1).

Abstract Background and purpose: The deep cervical flexor muscles have a major role in neck stabilization and evidence suggests that these muscles especially longus colli muscle (LCM) becomes dysfunctional in panitents suffering from cervicogenic headache. Therefore, measurement of these muscles in healthy subjects and patients may be of great value to understand the stabilization function o...

Diagnosis and treatment of cervicogenic headache are both clinically challenging; as a result, this disorder remains one of the most controversial in headache medicine. Between 50% and 75% of patients with whiplash injury may have headache related to a disorder of the neck, whereas in the general population, the prevalence of cervicogenic headache has been estimated to be 4.1%. Given that the p...

BACKGROUND The traditional diagnostic criteria of cervicogenic headache (CEH) are mainly subjective symptoms, thus making its differential diagnosis difficult. METHODS Twenty-two patients with subjectively diagnosed cervicogenic headache, including 7 with a tr...
متن کاملCervicogenic headache: an assessment of the evidence on clinical diagnosis, invasive tests, and treatment.
Cervicogenic headache is characterised by pain referred to the head from the cervical spine. Although the International Headache Society recognises this type of headache as a distinct disorder, some clinicians remain sceptical. Laboratory and clinical studies have shown that pain from upper cervical joints and muscles can be referred to the head. Clinical diagnostic criteria have not proved val...
